CGI at LaMarSOFT
- CGI-BIN
Every webmaster has heard about CGI. CGI lets you run a
program on the server. Comment forms, message boards, and web
counters are some of the common uses for CGI. While not as
fast as ASP, CGI is still the preferred option by many
webmasters.
Each account comes with a private directory at no
extra cost. That means you can start building a dynamic web
site right away using CGI.
LaMarSOFT has support for Perl, Visual Basic 4, and Visual
Basic 5 scripts.
- Unix based Perl scripts
Most Unix Perl scripts will work at LaMarSOFT. There are a few
minor differences, though. LaMarSOFT will not help you modify
Unix scripts to work with Windows 2000. Ask the author of the
Unix script for assistance converting the scripts.
1) You do not need to CHMOD scripts on Windows 2000 machines. Just place
them in the db directory.
2) You do not need to know the path of Perl for any Perl
script you host at LaMarSOFT.
3) Some pathnames will need to be changed, since the directory
structures of Windows 2000 differ from Unix.
4) Perl scripts must end in .pl
5) '.cgi' will not execute as Perl (rename .cgi extensions to
.pl)
6) $mailprog = 'c:\\sendmail\\sendmail';
